Sucrogen Townsville 400

Postby aussie1 » Wed Jul 03, 2013 11:29 pm

Finally, we get to see Casey on 4 wheels again. Man, who put together this calendar? A whole 2 months since the last round in Perth  We will then only have to wait 3 weeks until the Ipswich round. I wonder how much practice Casey has been able toget in over this "holiday period."

Will there be any at all? Simulator stuff I'm sure, but it's not the same.

I'm not sure what kind of training he can do apart from the simulator as you say HR. I was kind of hoping he would have been able to do what he did before his 1st race & drive around a test track with a hotted up version of the V8 street car. Then again, exactly how much time does he want to spend with his family too would come into it. I guess that's for the other topic though.

Thanks Marg :) It certainly looks like they could all do with a bit of a brush up on their bowling skills ;)

Casey's done another great job in practice. I really don't think Casey will ever have a problem with being fast in the car in V8s. It'll just be a case of getting use to the different methods he needs to use in making passes on 4 wheels. He's pretty much said that himself anyhow. He had the speed to run near the front in Perth, but just couldn't get past some stubborn resistence near the back. In that last race, he set the 8th fastest lap of the race, so as I said, speed wasn't the issue. Hopefully he can get himself somewhere within the top ten & stay clear of guys wanting to win the race of the first corner. He could very well have a great result coming his way this weekend if everyone races clean.

I hope he has a great weekend, so far it has been a good start. If he can get a good qualifying session it, he could very well be on for a great result. He definitely seems to be getting on well with the street circuits.

Yeah, exactly Marg. He mentioned in his interview that he thinks he will do well on the street circuits & as I said during the last race in Perth, I believe it's because there is that extra bit of danger having the concrete walls so close & Casey loves the thrill of taking it right to the edge (literally) at maximum possible speed. He's had to do it before with nowhere near as much protection around him on the bikes & I really believe it works in his favour.

Things are looking really good ATM. 6th in P2. That is an absolutely fantastic result :D :D (stay grounded aussie ;) ). Casey is just behind former main category driver Steve Owen & in front of Paul Morris who is also an ex-first category driver. Not a bad effort eh! 8-)

I was so pleased for him in P2, I really want him to have a good quali and really have a shot at seeing how much he can mix it at the front end :D Be good to see him back at the sharp end

From Casey himself:
World Moto GP Champion Casey Stoner finished well inside the top 10 in sixth.

What is only Stoner’s third Dunlop Series event the improvement on track was well-received and the V8 Supercars debutant said he was making the most of the Townsville street circuit.

“It’s hard getting all the little things together but we’re getting there and it’s a lot more enjoyable now," Stoner said.

"Plus the fact that I love street circuits – they’re fantastic. We had the first taste of it in Adelaide and then we did a few laps at Albert Park. I really enjoy the street ones. Hopefully we can stay in the top-10 for qualifying and spend more time up that end because we haven’t been there too much.”
